How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Previously, I had a very bad house as it was a corrugated house. When it was hot or cold, we experience the extreme and adverse weather changes which affected the health of my family as the children contracted pneumonia during the cold season. I build a new house using the transfer by buying building materials i.e iron sheets, poles, timber and nails. Now we live in a secure and conducive house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
They have upgraded the lifestyle of people in my society. For example, I did not have a good house so I bought building materials and built a new house as I had a corrugated house that is extremely cold or hot during adverse weather. My family now stays in a beautiful and conducive environment. We also sleep peacefully. I can not say there is anything that GD does not do well! They fulfil their promises as we got our transfers as they told us they would.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my first transfer I bought building materials i.e iron sheets, nails, timber and poles and built a new house as I had one built out of iron sheets which is extremely cold or hot during rainy and sunny seasons respectively. The new house did not have windows and a secure door. I used the second transfer to buy steel doors and windows which I installed. Now my home is beautiful and secure from burglars. I also bought chicken mesh which I used in improving the security of the poultry from stray animals which kill them at night. This shall see the growth of my poultry into the selling stage hence increase in my income. I also paid a casual labourer to till my sugarcane farm which is the major source of income I solely depend on.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is a blessing to me. I am planning to finish building my house which I stopped due to insufficiency of funds. My family will now live in a more comfortable and spacious house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening while having dinner with my children, the smile in their faces makes me lively.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship I have faced in life is that I have a small piece of land which cannot produce enough food to sustain my family to the next harvest season therefore I usually spend alot of money renting land for farming yet I do not have a stable source of income.
