How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My next goal is for me to be able to spread my wings professionally. At the moment I am still unemployed, though I am hopeful that one day I will be able to secure a stable job to support my family. I plan on achieving this dream by putting extra effort into the job boards.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has uplifted the lives of the needy in society. We were able to realise our dreams in real-time. I don't see anything that was not done well simply because no one was discriminated against.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I thought of buying a dairy cow. This is because I knew that it would act as an asset to us. And probably we would be able to exchange it with a parcel of land in future. Thus I used KES 45,000 on the cattle. Finally, I used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I was unable to achieve the dream before due to limited cash since I was left to depend on farming. I am so thankful for the support that showed us the right path to develop.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly.. I had just retired to bed when I heard my phone ring. Upon checking, I found out that GiveDirectly had sent me the KES 55000 we had been promised earlier that month. At first I was confused since the money came from Segovia and not GiveDirectly as I had expected. The fact that it was KES 55000 made me believe that it was sent from GiveDirectly. I later informed my husband in the morning who equally felt happy and helped me in planning the good use of money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The fact that we no longer have to worry about getting money to buy milk for the family is so satisfying. The dairy cow that we bought was a heme changer in our family. We have been able to get enough milk for family consumption and even get surplus for resale and meeting other immediate needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 43000 to buy a dairy cow. We had for a long time desired to have a dairy cow of our own and bring to an end the high cost of buying milk. I am happy that I now have a dairy cow of our own and we have enough supply of milk for our family-enough to consume and selling the surplus to meet other immediate needs of my family. The remaining amount was used to clear some debt owed to us for a long time and this has given us peace of mind within our family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a new family in the village, I am struggling to put my household at the level of other families around. My ambition is to see a stable family both financial and social welfare. I am currently enjoying support from my in-laws parents ranging from milk and some other farm outputs. I wish to invest in farming too so that I would be fully independent. Receiving a cash transfer to me is a dream come true. I am planning to use KES 50000 to buy a dairy cow. I prefer this since this is an asset in my family. I will be enjoying milk from my farm and selling the surplus to earn an income. I am hoping this will grow to be a large farm that I would rely on for daily milk production and the large herd will be my financial security.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It is more than a year since I got married. As a tradition, I had been living with my in-law's parents in the same household. I loved the warm welcome and support I was given in there. In the last 6 months, I started my household. This is what has brought joy to my life. I feel satisfied working on my decision and at my own pace unlike when I was still under my parents.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I completed my degree this year in June with the happiness that I would secure employment. I got married last March 2020 and I spend much of my time in school afterward. When I completed and came back home, I transitioned to my household to start my family. It has not been easy meeting my daily needs since I had not engaged in any livelihood. Currently, the biggest challenge I am facing is the lack of a job. I depend on my husband who is still a student for my upkeep. I feel ashamed of this habit but I have no other options.
