Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
All my family members are currently looking healthy because we eat well. This money enabled me to start up a business which has increased my purchasing power, I am now able to afford a balanced diet for my household. Previously, the little money i got had very many demands. I thank GiveDirectly for enabling me sort the heavy demands at once.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money on my phone, I felt happy. I withdrew it that same day and bought meat for the family to eat as a celebration.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used my first transfer to buy 7 iron sheets at UGX 213,000, 1 trip of bricks at UGX 350,000, a solar panel at UGX 663,000, a mattress at UGX 110,000, a blanket, utensils,clothes, phone chargers, two hens and food. I paid a debt of UGX 500,000. I gave my wife UGX 50,000 for starting the business of brewing beer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house because the one that I sleep in leeks. I will also buy a piece of land that I can cultivate in oder to get food to feed my family. This will improve my standard of living.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the noon time when I am listening to music over the radio. I am able to dance and shake off some stress.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of money to take care of the needs of my household. The piece of land that I have is too small to sustain the needs of my household. What I do most of the time is casual labour just to be sure that children eat. My income is so low that I can't save for the future. It is for this reason that I have not been able to improve the standard of living in my home.
