How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Receiving money from GiveDirectly has made me to achieve my goal in a short time. Therefore, my new goal would be to purchase a dairy cow to relieve me of the milk expenses. I plan to realising this dream by saving up my from the casual jobs, though it would take time before the amount is complete.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did a noble work by supporting the less fortunate in the society. We received unrestricted transfers, which enabled us to accomplish our needs in real time. A good example is that people renovated their houses, other paid school fees for their children and many more developments. Never did I witness anything that was not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My heart's desire was for me to build a decent house for my family. This is because the house that I was living in was small and grass-thatched. Though, I was incapable of realising this dream because of financial constraints. My husband and I are consistent farmers and casual workers. Together, we have three children. Upon the receipt of our second transfer, we opted to construct a decent house for our family, thus we used KES 30,000 on the same. Thereafter, we purchased enough foodstuffs. I'm so grateful for the support that brought so much happiness to my family by uplifting our living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It was around 5:00 pm when I heard my phone ring and it was a message from GiveDirectly. I informed my husband who was equally very happy to have received money from GiveDirectly. We later planned on how to spend the money
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the investments that we made. We would not have bought for example the dairy cow since the amount of money that we normally get is barely enough to buy food for family. We feel so much indebted to GiveDirectly for enabling us realize dreams that would have continued to remain as just dreams had we not received money from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We used KES 30000 to buy a dairy cow and used another KES 5000 to pay school fees and the remaining amount was used to buy food for the family. For a long time we had had the desire to buy a dairy cow and bring to an end the endless purchase of milk for local consumption but the amount of money that we got from our income generating activities of subsistence farming was hardly enough to enable us make ends meet. I am particularly very happy to have been able to buy the dairy cow and we are looking forward to it producing its first calf such that we will no longer be buying milk .

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a housewife taking care of my 3 small children, I fully depend on my husband who runs a barbershop in a nearby shopping center. I have always wished to support him financially, he earns approximately KES 250 on a good day, and on a bad day he might return without any money despite the high cost of living in our country catering for the family's needs is coming tough. I plan on starting poultry farming with KES 40000 to allow me to earn some money hence making me financially independent. This will allow us to improve our living standards.
What is the happiest part of your day?
when I recently heard that GiveDirectly would finally be in my village I was happy because I knew this is a lifetime opportunity to allow my family to be financially independent.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is the biggest challenge in my household. I live on a small piece of land that we inherited from our parents, this land is small such that we can not plant sufficient food crops to feed on my growing family. Also, food crops have been performing poorly especially maize due to an outbreak of a maize lethal necrosis disease. Relying on my husband's barbershop business is tough because he earns KES 200 which is not sufficient for the family's needs.
