How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After planning, executing, and completing all I had planned before receiving the transfers, I don't have any new goal at the moment but working on the running farm projects that I started with the transfers. I am happy that everything worked out so well and has relieved me of the huge burdens that have been pinning me down, especially after the ailment of my spouse who used to give me a helping hand.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Looking at all that has happened within a very short time since GiveDirectly came into the village is heartwarming. The clear instructions on the effects of conflicts in the household lever instilled a great discipline in every family making them productive and peaceful in their plans executions. In my opinion, the great results in every household are because of the great teachings from GiveDirectly. Nothing to complain about at all but wishing GiveDirectly another successful delivery in other villages that are yet to be visited.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With just a single living room in my household, congestion due to the piling of luggage right from the sitting area extending to beneath beds. This had brought a lot of havoc since it was so conducive to the destructive rodents that would sneak in and tracing them has never been easier. I was in dire need of a separate store and could not afford to lose a chance of constructing one before exhausting all the transfers I had received. I spent KES 30000 on buying ten iron sheets, nails, building poles, and also paying the labor force that worked on a decent construction at my doorsteps. I have managed to transfer all the piles to the story that has kept the living room cleaner and even spacious for the two and even visitors whenever they come around. I spent KES 15000 of the remaining amount on settling medical bills for my spouse who was not feeling well then and happy that she is getting stronger every day. We also bought ourselves clothing worth KES 4500, and used the remaining on the purchase of foodstuff, and also maize seeds that I planted and have been doing amazingly well, especially over this rainy season.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message alert on my phone early in the morning while at home relaxing after taking my breakfast. Upon checking its contents, my heart was filled with happiness as the message indicated that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I knew that our prayers had finally been answered and we would be able to accomplish our goals as a family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
When Give Directly came to our village for enrollment and promised us that we shall receive an unconditional lump sum amount of money to use in improving our livelihood, I promised myself that I would spend this aid wisely to achieve my goals. Currently, I am glad that I have been able to build an iron-roofed kitchen for my family something that I never thought that I would ever accomplish. This has made my daily life different as we now live happily without worrying about the rains anymore unlike before when my wife would get rained on when making our meals due to the leaking roof.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my transfer, I spent KES 30000 to build a more spacious iron-roofed kitchen for my family. I settled on this since the one we had was old and its roof was leaking. This always made it impossible for my spouse to prepare our meals, especially during the rainy season as she would get rained on. Also, I spent KES 6500 to purchase a bed and a mattress to replace the traditional bed that I have been using. I used the remaining 15000 on food, clothes, and other household necessities.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this amount mean a lot to me because I have planned to build an iron roofed kitchen at a cost of 20,000 shillings because the grass that I use to thatch my kitchen is not available anymore. I will buy a cow at a cost of 25,000 shillings for milk production since I do not have one. I will use 6,000 shillings to stock maize and the rest used to buy basic things.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the evening because I get to see my grandchildren and also my family has something to eat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Low income. My wife and I are old. We have children but they have married and as per our custom, we had to to pay dowry for our three sons. This set us back and with this money I will buy a cow to help us get milk for sale and to be used at home.
