How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Right now, I am living in a better house. The one I used to live in a small house next to the river in my area. It was not safe for my family and I used to live in fear of attacks since the area was very insecure. With the transfers, I was able to move into a better house and in a safe place. I no longer have the fear I used to have and I am at peace because I know I am secured. Thanks to GD for changing my life.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to continue saving part of my transfers. I plan to use my savings on starting poultry project. I have witnessed how it has changed lives and I know with my commitment and dedication, I know I will make it. I want to have a stable income which will change my life for the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying my house rent. I had used all my savings during the festive season when I went home to visit my family members. I was counting on the transfers to pay rent and I am glad GD never disappointed me. The rest of the transfer I used on buying food for my family. We did not have enough in the house. Since I started getting these transfers, I have never gone without any meal.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I really want to thank GD for the transfers. Were it not for the transfers, I would not be having any income by now. My business was not doing well and was soon collapsing. I had used in the resources from the business to sort family issues such as medication. My daughter was sick and I did not have any money for medication. My only way was the business money. After the treatment, the business was not doing well because I used business resources to treat my daughter. I had to take a loan to revive the business because I knew I would get money from GD to pay back the loan. If it were not for GD, I would not have taken the loan and my business would have been no more.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
GD did well in giving everyone money to use in his/her own way. This was a good idea because everyone has different needs and giving us money was the best way to help us meet our needs. On the other hand, GD should have sent the money in lumpsum to all recipient. I feel when money is sent in lumpsum, it is more helpful than when it is sent on a monthly basis.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying back a debt I had from my friends and a mobile app. I was in dire need of money when my business was not doing well. I had taken money from the business to handle medication when my daughter was not feeling well. The business was depreciating and I feared it would have collapsed anytime. This is why I chose to take a loan to revive the business. I am glad I did not use business profits to pay back the loan because I used the transfers. Thanks to GD.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from the way it would have been had I not received the transfers in that my life has improved because I have been able to meet most of the family's needs without much struggle. This is because, through the GD transfers, I have been able to sustain my family's needs for two months without any other source of income. Thanks to GD for coming at the right time!
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I'm trained in mass communication and I have specialized in online marketing. Currently, I do not have a laptop instead, I always hire which is very expensive and at the same time, I do not have a website still. So I have an additional goal of saving some money so that I'll use them in the future to purchase a laptop and to open my own website. With these, I'll be able to easily partner with many people of the like-minded and have more customers thus I won't stay for a longer period without any work to do.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I rely on casual work and for the last two months, I haven't been able to secure any job. This left me to be financially down because I had spent most of my savings so when I received the recent transfer I contributed part of it on our weekly Merry-go-round because I hadn't made any contribution for the whole month. A portion of the I spent on the debts which I had borrowed two weeks ago from our savings group to pay for both my medication and my spouse's medication.

My goal is to complete school this year so I can finally graduate. I also hope to register my own company with my photography business.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that the living standards of my family has improved. I now have some extra amount of money to supplement my income and I can now comfortably provide for my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to pay for my school fees in college and to expand my business. I study Mass Communication and Media Studies at Zetech University in the Central Business District of Nairobi county. I had some fee arrears that I had not paid from last year that I used the transfers to complete. I intend to complete my studies and to graduate this year by paying for my school fees with my coming transfers. I am also involved in photography, whereby I utilized part of the transfers to expand my photography business.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I woke up in the morning at around 5:00 AM to find the Mpesa message in my phone. I was really happy as I did not have enough money on that day to get me to work. I went to work as usual and later in the evening I met a few of my group members whom we discussed about the transfers and how we would spend it. I also saved some to clear my school fee arrears as I spend the remainder in food for my family.
