How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goal that I have is to start a hardware business that I can be operating. This will enable me to save towards achieving my dream of furthering my education. I am glad that my husband has promised to support me in achieving these goals in life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
People from my village are so happy because of GiveDirectly and are grateful to God for leading them to our village. We believe that they are God-sent since we have never heard of an organization that sends financial aid to people directly, is fair in the enrollment process, and gives people an equal amount of money. To me, this is what GiveDirectly excels in and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It has been my wish to further my studies by enrolling in a master's degree since I recently graduated with a BSc degree. I am a housewife since my children are still young and we have been depending on my spouse who is an MCA. The transfer gave me an opportunity to invest towards achieving my dream and because of this, I spent KES 50000 on the purchase of four calves upon receiving my most recent transfer and used the remaining amount on food. I will later sell them and use the money to pay for my school fees.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up to an Mpesa message on my phone, upon checking, it was a receipt of Kshs.55,000 from Give directly. I was excited and immediately informed my family about it. We celebrated the good news as we prepared to initiate our plans.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is owning a dairy cow. I am grateful for this support which has enabled me cut costs in buying milk and spend the money in meeting other household bills.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With my first transfer,I spent Kshs. 50,000 to purchase a dairy cow. Buying milk had been a challenge for a long period of time since I used to buy three litres of of milk per day for my ten family members. Currently we are able to milk five litres per day which is adequate for consumption. In addition, I spent Kshs. 5,000 in purchasing feeds for the dairy cow to boost its health hence giving us good production of milk. I am thankful to Givedirectly for the great support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means an end to my over 5 years of job-search exercise. The efforts that I have put towards my job search have gone unrewarded for I have never received any job offer from the many job applications that I have made. I hope to invest the transfers from Give Directly in dairy and poultry farming which I hope to concentrate on fully since jobs have proved hard to come by. Eggs and milk are in high demand within my area and venturing into the two projects will fetch be profitable to me. I am excited that my dream projects, dairy, and poultry farming, which have remained just dreams, thanks to lack of a starting capital, will finally become a reality courtesy of transfers from Give Directly. I wish to invest KES 80,000 in two high-yielding dairy cows and the rest in poultry farming. With this, I will be fully engaged in taking care of the two projects and this will end  my over 5 years of job-search exercise. This will also give me peace of mind and time to take care of my 10 member family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a mother of 3 girls and a 2-month-old baby boy. Being a mother of girls, I had prayed for over 3 years for a baby boy, and thankfully, my prayers got answered 2 months ago when my fourth pregnancy resulted in a bouncing baby boy. Giving birth to a bouncing baby boy after waiting for more than 3 years brought a lot of joy and happiness that I have never felt before in my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I graduated in the year 2015, and I have never been in any gainful employment since then. This has prevented me from initiating projects that I have aspired to venture into. After making several job applications that have yielded zero success, I thought of venturing into dairy and poultry farming but lack of finances has made this impossible. Milk and eggs are in in high demand and venturing into the two projects will be an excellent investment for me. I am currently a stay-at-home parent depending fully on my husband, a local area Member of County Assembly, for all financial needs. This has not given me the financial freedom to venture into the projects that I have aspired to engage in which I hope will mark the end of my job search that has lasted for over 5 years.
