How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
No! I had no goals before receiving my payment. My old goal has been to plaster my house and put It In a good condition. I have not been able to do that due to lack of money. I am a farmer. Before I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly things were a bit difficult for my family. I make oil and take to local markets to sell. Sometimes the business does not go well. We can hardly make enough money from the sales. I am do grateful that I got enrolled in this program. It's a privilege and I am excited. Hopefully our lives will improve.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does not do anything wrongly. It has changed my life and improved it for the best. It's cash program has made me a real man now. I I had lost hope completely after I lost my business. I was so excited when GiveDirectly came to my town I am grateful for this opportunity.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a wonderful moment early that morning while I was in my garden planting coconut. I received my transfer through text message from GiveDirectly. I was so excited because I have been working hard to earn enough money and purchase few bags of cement to put my house floor and plaster the walls as well. Moreover, I wanted to start a retail business that would create an additional income for me and my family. Currently, I am able to achieve all of the above with GD's transfer. I am grateful for this golden opportunity that has helped changed my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has transitioned from being jobless to a business owner. I was also able to plaster my house and put a concrete floor in the entire house as well. My life in the past seems hopeless. However, with this transfer from GiveDirectly, hope has been restored once more. The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving transfer is at this point in life, I feel more relaxed and partially accomplished.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I purchased few bags of cement to plaster my house and put a concrete floor in the entire house as well. I also used a huge portion of my transfer to buy pack of candies, biscuits, chocolate, peanuts etc.. to set up my retail business. I remained hopeful of expanding my business once I receive my next transfer as promised by GiveDirectly. I am grateful for this opportunity provided me by GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Since I moved in this town in 2013, I have been living in my uncle's house because I don't have the financial means to rent or build a place for my family and me. It is so embarrassing to live in another man's house with your family as a grown up man. When I receive any grant from Give Directly, I will use portion of the money to build a house for my family and use the remaining balance to send my children to school. Right now my children are at risk of being thrown out of school because I have not paid their tuition yet".
What is the happiest part of your day?
In November 2021, I went to a town called Globon to visit a friend and they were excitingly discussing the positive impact of Give Directly in their community. From that moment, I began excited because I had the hope that Give Directly would one day visit my town as well. One of the things that gave me joy about their narration at that moment was that Give Directly gives money to people without any condition attached. Therefore, the news of Give Directly in my County and district is the most exciting news for me in the last 6 months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
"One a daily basis I have to go into the bushes to harvest palm to sell in order to provide food for my family and also pay the children's school fees because there is no other source of income. But the little I get from palm sale cannot sustain us so on many occasions we go to bed without food and the children are always dropping out of school because we cannot afford the school fees. As of now there is a huge competition for palm due to the hardship in the region. As a result, it is even difficult to get a bag of palm from a daily hustle. Therefore, financial difficulties is the major hardship we are faced wth".
