How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before the transfer, I used to idle around because I did not have a regular job. I could go to do menial jobs on people's farms occasionally because work was not always available. I had to do menial jobs just to feed my family. I am now having a good business because of a motorcycle taxi business. This ensures that there is food in my household all the time since I never miss work to do. I spent time every day ferrying people and goods. The income is constant though not steady but is enough for me and my household unlike before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly brought about a lot of peace in the family in the villages. I fact, those who had separated because of conflict caused by stress and poverty rejoined their families. They acquired new sources of livelihood, for example, some got livestock that produces milk. Some were built homes where they could come back to and start over again. There is a new life in my village because GiveDirectly did a good job here.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on buying a motorcycle. I used the whole of the transfer topping it up with an amount that remained from my first transfer. I use the motorcycle as a taxi. The motorbike contributes an income continuously to my household. I am able to provide for my family's daily needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that now I got milk for use from my own cow and I spent most of my time looking after these cows.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I got the transfer from GD, I didn't believe first that I have gotten it. The moment I receive, I was financially down and was struggling with casual jobs to get money for sustaining my family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent a better portion of the money I got from Give Directly to buy two cows. Before I use to keep cows which I was given by a friend and I chose to buy my own when I got the money. The rest I spent to complete a house which I had constructed half way. Now I have moved in and living happily with my family.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of funds for financing my studies - I could want to be a driver. Hence, I have been tackling difficult tasks as a casual laborer in attempts to raise funds for my family's basic needs and general upkeep.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at the evening when returning from work with some food for my family. This means that we shall have some food for the day, and thus life continues. Beside, presence of food in the family tends to attract more peace and a sense of responsibility.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my living standard (and that of my family) will improve significantly since I will afford to buy enough food for my family and buy more farmland.
