How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I was living in a state of hopelessness. I thought that my daughter in-law and the grandchildren could be lost to another man for good, but thank God for GiveDirectly that has sealed the shame and has restored the pride of my lineage. My happiness is to see the continuity of my family linage, and I know that if God could take my heart to rest with the saints, I will happy. I am also proud of my grandchildren, and to see them a round me is a great pleasure.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has uplifted our economy, the beneficiaries of the program are wide ranged. It promoted transport sector, business, as well as social coexistence. There is nothing negative I could pinpoint. Everyone was happy within the community and what they request is the extension of the program.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying two cows and building materials. My son died before paying dowry to his in-law. According to our customs, marriage can only be legitimated after dowry payment. I feared that my grandchildren would be taken away to another man, could I failed to fulfill our customary requirements. I have also built for her a house after paying the bride prize.

The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the money form GiveDirectly is that I feel so happy that I can afford daily meals.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I recived the money I felt so happy and thanked God because I didn't have any money at that moment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought seats with part of the money I received from GiveDirectly because I didn't have any seats and I could borrow seats from neighbors whenever I had visitors. I bought iron sheets with part of the money that I'm planning to use to construct a bigger house because the current house is too squeezed. I also bought corn flour for family consumption because I didn't farm in the last season.
