Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my cash transfer I was so happy..It was around 8pm and I was together with my family, we danced and celebrated together.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that I am now able to enjoy my marriage as there is no pressure for food and I am now able to spend more quality time with my family as compared to the past where I was so busy in search for money. Also, I managed to pay school fees for my son and I feel relieved that my son will be educated..Had it been I have not received this money, my son could not have been able to go to school.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to procure 2 bags of fertiliser..I spent at least $120 on the bags of maize and $8 on transport..I plan to apply the fertilizer on maize which I think will help me to have more money in the future. I bought food i.e. 6 bags of maize at $120..These bags will take my household through february next year since my family is small consisting of 5 people. Furthermore, I paid school fees for my son Dalirani, who is in form 1 and in secondary school..The fees is $25 and the remaining part of money was spent on purchasing 1 goat so that I can add on to the few goats that I already have.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Recieving this money would help me to pay tuition fees for my children in one installment. I have a nephew who is in Form 3 at Mayani Secondary school which is a private school. School fees per term is K35,000. I would also use K250,000 to start a secondhand clothes business. I have always admired my friends who do this business because they are able to provide basic needs and develop their houses easily. The profits of this business would make it easy for me to also make nutritious food for my family to improve our health.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The months before August, I was happy because I and my spouse used to plan and make decisions together as a family. This made me happy because we were able to provide most of the basic needs that a person needs in our daily life such as food, shelter, and body lotion. However everything changed in August when he married a second wife. His behavior changed and we no longer make decisions together about out family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is a financial challenge. I am the first wife in a polygamous marriage. Ever since my husband married a second wife, it has been difficult to provide all the basic needs that my four children need. I have a vegetable garden where I do plant mustard seed and tomatoes. Whenever I do harvest and sell the farm produce and keep the money in my room it goes missing. This is because my husband sometimes takes a share of the money to his second wife's house.
