How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I am peaceful because I was able to reduce my fee balance and I have been able to pay my college fees too. The biggest achievement was when I sat for exams. At least I will finish school with my other peers.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to make sure that I finish college. Getting money to pay school fees has been difficult and being that I am remaining with one semester to go, I would not wish to drop out of college. With help from relatives and friends, I am hopeful of finishing my course so as to get my certificate which will help me apply for jobs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my third transfer on paying my college fees. I had a huge balance and I had nowhere to get the money not even time to look for casual jobs because of my studies. I could also not take a loan from anyone because no one could trust me since I did not have a job. I had to miss some exams due to financial constraints. My friends and relatives have been helping me but at times they lack the money. I am glad that I am remaining with the last semester. My parents are unemployed and have always helped by providing our household needs through farming. The remaining amount was spent on my upkeep and started poultry farming hoping to get income out of it.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Receiving the transfers has given me a very strong ground to stand on in the fight against depression that people fall into in my home area. I was able to pay school fees that had been a long time and stressful hard struggle. I am currently persuing my course in mental health nursing that had almost faded because of fee problems. I would not have been able to continue my education were it not for the intervention of the money I get form the GiveDirectly program.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My goal is to start a rehabilitation clinic in my home here in the slums. I want to use this facility to help to manage depression and stress that many youth, some of them being my friends, have succumbed to as a result of the hard life here that has forced many into drug abuse. I aim to be helpful using both my skills in mental health nursing and the money I receive to establish the clinic
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the most recent transfer on paying for my own school fees at the institution where I am taking a course in mental health nursing. I then used apart of the money in starting a poultry keeping project. I purchased hens that are good in egg laying. Some of the money went towards the buying of layers feeds.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goals are to complete my education and to live a fulfilling and better life that I have always wanted. I now see myself completing school and getting a good job that will give me a better life of wealth than the poverty I grew up in.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I have stayed in school in January without being sent home for school fees, which most of the time, I would have no where to get it. I believe that with the coming transfers, I will stay I school the whole of this year and complete my education finally.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfers to pay my college fees and to begin a poultry business in my rural home in Homabay County. I am currently a third year nursing student at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi county. I am currently stationed at the Mathare Mental Hospital. I have struggled a lot with my school fees as my parents retired and went to our rural home. They have no means to pay my school fees. I have had to depend on my relatives and some casual jobs to pay my school fees. I had a big debt in college that I used the transfers to clear. I hope to clear the remaining debt and part of school fees with the coming transfers. I have always wanted to complete my education so I can have a better life than how I grew up.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I was in college early in the morning waiting for my first class when I heard a message come into my phone. On checking my phone, it was the Mpesa message from Give Directly. I was filled with excitement. I was very happy as I just saw myself finally completing my education. I told no one about it, and I attended my morning class. I later took time by myself to meditate how I would spend the money

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I was in kmtc college where I was doing diploma in medical health,I was forced to drop out due to lack of fee. Since i have this money I will go back to school and continue with my studies. Secondly I will invest in a new business of poultry then finally invest in ground nuts(peanuts),actually I have done this business before and I know how it goes.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is being unable to achieve my ambitions because it Will kill my spirit,my family's and a reason to exist. Can you imagine having sleepless nights trying to study and get funds to facilitate my education and sometimes go hungry just to save money for my school fees. I also have a family who have invested in me alot and I think I can only make them proud by giving my best but not failure.
What are your greatest ambitions?
Once am done with my studies I would want to have my own clinic whereby am spearheading its operations to make sure patients get good services to serve my nation well.I would also want to be a leader in future who can be an example to the citizens in terms of honoring and respecting our constitution.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
On my usual day I wake up not that early because I have no serious thing am doing right now,I do my normal house chores then just stay stand-by in case something comes up.on my free time i go to play football with my friends like for two hours then go to watch football on television.
