How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have the sheep that I can lean on in case of any thing. This are also assets that increase in number within a shorter period of time since they have shorter gestation period.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enrolling everyone in our village and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent some amount to buy some sheep as an investment that I can rely on in case of a financial crisis. Also, I spent some money to buy some basic needs for my family. I bought some decent clothes for everyone and food to last us for some time. I still have some amount that I am planning to use in meeting our daily needs

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Even though I am a farmer, I have not been able to give my family enough food that can last from one harvesting season to the subsequent one. This always forced me to spend a lot of money on buying food for my family when our yields are over. It is derailing for me since I have other family needs mainly children's education to take care of with the little income. I felt my resources were being wasted since I could not use most of my piece of land and I was not able to cultivate on time due to lack of enough resources and this usually led to poor yields. The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier than before. This is because my farming was improved courtesy of cash transfer. I used hybrid seeds, artificial fertilizer, prepared well my land and planted on time this year. Because of this, I am optimistic of a good harvest this year that will last us till the next harvesting season. I believe I will have surpluses to sell to help meet other family needs or invest in other income-generating activities.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
With my age, I can not comfortably use a phone on my own. That morning I knew I had received a new message but I never bothered to check it since I could do not know how to read. My son surprised me when he broke the good news to me that I had received money from Give directly after reading the text on the phone. I was left overwhelmed with the joy of the financial assistance I had received.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer to pay school fees for my children. I am now a happy parent because they were allowed to sit for their end year examinations. This is an achievement for me since I believe my children will only have a brighter future through education. Being a farmer, I used some amount in farming. I bought farm inputs that included maize seeds and fertilizers and also hired a tractor to till my piece of land. I hope that I will have better yields for both household consumption and sales to earn an extra income. Also, I bought a goat for rearing. When it reproduces, I will be selling one in case I am faced with a financial crisis. I took some amount to buy a sack of maize for family consumption and other household necessities. As a way of furnishing my house, I bought some paints and paid a worker to paint my house. I still have some money that I am intending to use in case of an emergency.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy food and other basic needs. At my age,I am no longer able to work in the farm and therefore I fully depend on my children.I was also diagnosed with hypertension and this means that I am always on medication which is quite costly. With this money at hand,I will be less dependent on my children who also have their own families to fend for since I will buy foodstuff, medicine and clothes
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend most of my day under a shade outside my house. This is because I no longer have the energy to work due to old age and sickness. Most of the time I feel lonely because my children will be busy in their farms and their children in school. In the afternoon,my grandchildren return from school and the first place they think of visiting is my house. When they are around, they make me so happy.Their joyful noise as the play around while climbing fruit trees keeps the homestead lively. We even have time to sit and I answer their never ending questions. This makes me very happy and less lonely. The happiest part of my day therefore is in the afternoon
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I was diagnosed with hypertension four years ago, life has been quite difficult.I have had to do less work even around my homestead and have to be on constant medication to manage it.When this happened,I received treatment in various hospitals and this ate up most of my assets especially livestock. Each day,I am required to take some medicine and this requires that there is always money at hand.Medication costs has remained to be the biggest hardship I have faced
