In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is really helping me through the cash transfers that they send me. I now have money to care for my child. Everything costs money and GiveDirectly has been very helpful as I use the transfers to pay for what i need. I do not have anything in mind about how they can improve. In my opinion, they are okay.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first transfer reached me when my child was sick so it all went towards treatment and paying for hospital bills. I used the second transfer to repair my leaking house. My house was leaking so bad and whenever it rained we had to deal with water getting into the house. I therefore, bought cement and used it to repair the leaks.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When the money came in I was actually fetching water for one of my neighbours since that is the way I earned a living from time and I was elated because I had so many tribulations and especially my sons health was scaring me since I knew he needed medical attention but I could not afford it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have managed to take care of my son and through the funds I received I managed to acquire medication that nursed him back to health and for that I am extremely grateful because I really needed the help.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before receiving the money I was really stressed out because my son was sick and I am single parent with no job since the dad decided to abandon us since the baby was born until now where he can walk and I have struggled financially for the past year just to provide and take care of my baby. First thing I did is I took him to hospital and for thr medication I paid KES 500 and as for the fare back and forth I paid KES 400. I also bought my son milk worth KES 300.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a young single mother, I have to think hard about my son's welfare. He is one year, ten months old. At the moment, my mother and grandmother have been gracious enough to provide for us.
From Give Directly transfers, I intend to save 2,000KES each month for as long as I can. This money will be used to enroll my son in school when the time comes. The remaining 1,000KES I will give to my grandmother so that she can add more food for us.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When my son got to a stage where I could leave him with other people, I started going to the farm with my grandmother. Leaving him with my uncle.
Accompanying my grandmother to the farm gives me so much satisfaction, especially when I see her happy with my help and productivity.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Before I got pregnant, I used to work as a house help in Mombasa. Being able to cater to my own needs was quite a blessing.
Currently, I'm at home taking care of my child. Jobless. I depend on my mother for basic needs including sanitary towels. This makes me sad because I know that she is also struggling with her bills.
