How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I'm truly happy and content with what I have I achieved so far and I do not have any new goals at the moment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Everything Give Directly does is well meaning. Personally, I am grateful that I was given the chance to benefit from it. May God bles you abundantly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had bought land previously but unfortunately was not able to make any further developments. Receiving the second transfer helped me purchase materials like cement, stones and roofing sheets which facilitated the building of the house. I also expanded my goat rearing business by buying 10 more goats. The rest of the amount went into buying food,a bed and also a mattress.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 am when I heard a message notification tone from my phone. I was at the hospital and had given birth and we were admitted. When I checked the message I could not believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. That was also the moment that I needed some money to pay the hospital bill. I immediately inform my family members of the good news and everyone celebrated with lots of joy. I also knew I would be able to build a better house when I went back home. This amazing news gave me some peace of mind and even get well quicker. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Purchasing building materials to build a better and more spacious house for my family is the biggest difference in my daily life. We lived in a small house that could not host all my family comfortably. The house is on someone's land and this has given us sleepless nights since the owner wants us to move out. We had saved some amount with my spouse and bought a piece of land. We lack the money to purchase the building materials to build our house. When we received the money from GiveDirectly we felt so happy and we decided to purchase all the necessary building materials planning on building a house on our land. This will give us peace of mind that currently we do not get. The owner of the land where we live now is always complaining and wants to move out. We were so worried because we had no extra money to start the construction process. currently we have hope that soon we gonna start the construction of the house and move out peacefully and live well. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has improved our living standards and given us peace of mind to conduct other daily activities.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 on purchasing building materials and planning on building a better and more spacious house on the new land that we had bought using our savings. We lived on someone's land and this has given us stress. The owner wants us to move out of the land. I am so grateful because I have bought the building materials waiting for the second transfer to start the construction process. I paid KES 6,300 on hospital bills. I had given birth at the hospital and we were admitted. I was able to pay the bills and we were discharged to go home. The rest of the money I have saved planning on purchasing more building materials and to pay workers. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly had given us hope and opened a way for us to fulfilled our dreams.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I live in a small house that someone would mistake for a kitchen. My plan is to build a two-roomed house that would comfortably house my three daughters and me. I am currently expectant and this will require extra room for the newborn baby. I will then use the house I live in as a kitchen since I cookout in the open. I will also add two cows to my livestock, it has been a desire to own a cow or two just to add to the 12 goats I own.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am grateful for the gift of life and good health. I am currently pregnant and almost due, no challenges and fit. I can do different house chores and still take my livestock to the fields to graze.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have a tiny house that barely accommodates my husband and me. The only thing the house can include is a mattress and a Jerry can of water. Sleeping in the same house with my children is not an option and as a mother, I desire to have them close to me at all times. I wish I could build a big and spacious house to feel the gap.
