How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different in that I have expanded my poultry project. I am now happy since I have a source of income to cater for my family needs and I no longer depend on casual jobs to earn a living. I can now sleep comfortably since I used part of transfers to buy a mattress. In the past I used to sleep in an old mattress and I could not sleep comfortably and I used to wake up feeling exhausted since I did not sleep well.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal that I did not have before receiving the transfer is to build a house in my rural home. I decided on this because whenever I go home I have to sleep with my neighbor and this lowers my dignity in the neighborhood. I am planning to save the income from my poultry business and use it to buy building materials such as iron sheet and timber.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend my most recent transfer to expand my poultry business. I build a poultry house and bought more chicken. Before receiving my transfer I used to earn little income from the poultry project since I had few chicken and also get little money from casual jobs which was not constant. I expanded this project so as to get more income from the poultry project to cater for my family needs. I also saved part of my transfers in a Sacco since I am planning to add to my third transfer and use it to buy a motorcycle and venture in motorcycle business. This will thus be an additional source of income to my family.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
I want to major in poultry farming so that I can completely quit the casual jobs I normally do.For this to be possible,I will use my next transfer to expand the project by constructing another chicken pen and bring in layers so that I can be selling both eggs and broiler chickens. I will then spend the rest of the money on a second-hand motorcylce which I will use for delivery purposes and part time taxi business.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My biggest dream has always been to have my own source of income without having to depend on casual jobs which are usually very unreliable. For the past few months, I have been struggling to put up a poultry project but it has been really tough due to lack of funds. The money that I received has really helped me to boost the project and I can already see the benefits.I am currently making twice as much as I did when I was working as a casual labourer. This has enabled me to easily take care of my daily household needs without having to borrow.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I invested in poultry farming 5 months ago and so far, I have had great returns. When I received the money, I decided to expand the project by enlarging the chicken pen and adding more chickens to meet the high demands during this festive season. I also purchased enough chicken feed for the month and some personal items such as a mattress. I saved the rest of the money for Christmas celebrations.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
The message came very early in the morning when I was still in bed, but because I never ignore my messages or calls, I had to check immediately who texted me so early. To my surprise, it was a message indicating I had received money from GD. I was so happy that I had to call some of my group members to confirm if they had received the money as well. I could not wait for daybreak so that I could immeadiately start working on the projects I had planned.
