How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The transfers from GiveDirectly gave me strength tho forge ahead in life. Because of the transfers, I now have the ability to meet most of our needs using the money I get through the sale of milk. Owning a dairy cow had always been my dream but I had not been able to achieve it due to lack of finances.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did a good job in giving us a large sum of money without any conditions and I do not see what they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfers, I bought a dairy cow worth 33000 to replace the one that had died. Due to this, I have been able to save the money I would otherwise use in buying milk. I used the remaining amount to buy food and decent clothes for my children.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. I would not have fulfilled my life goal of owning one had it not have been for GiveDirectly. I will be earning income from it through the sale of milk when it reproduces.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 3 a.m. when I received two message notifications on my phone. It was after reading its contents that I realized that GiveDirectly had deposited into my account the money they had promised. I was so grateful to God and GiveDirectly for financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I spent a good amount from it to buy a dairy cow. It had always been my prayer to own one so that it would relieve me the cost of buying milk daily but I had not been able to achieve this due to lack of money. Apart from this, I bought two goats for rearing. Their gestation period is short hence they will increase in number within a short time. I will sell some of them after some time and use the money to buy another dairy cow. I can also sell one easily in case of an emergency. I used the remaining amount to buy one sack of maize flour and decent clothes for my family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my living standards will greatly improve in that i plan to buy two dairy cattle since cattle rearing is favourable in our locality and the returns are higher compared to crop farming. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy some sheep for rearing so that in future i can sell them when they multiply to pay school fees for my brothers who will soon join high school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I always leave home as early as 7.30 am to go looking for jobs that would earn me some income at the end of the day. I am always busy during the day and my happiness usually comes in the evening when i get back home carrying food for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a casual worker, my income is too low compared to my needs. My daily income comes from doing casual jobs such as plucking tea leaves, fencing, planting and weeding crops in people's farms. However, its never a guarantee for me to get the jobs to do on daily basis hence unreliable source of income is my greatest challenge.
