How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to continue constructing my house by putting up the floor. I had started the construction sometimes back but I had not been able to complete it due to insufficient finances. In addition, I am planning to increase the livestock keeping by purchasing one more cows. This will improve the milk production something that will earn me more income to cater for the basic needs of my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for sending cash transfers directly to our mobile phones. In addition, we had the right to decide on how well we can spend it to elevate our living standards. Having said this, I do not see anything that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to pay part of the school fees for my child who is in form 3. I used KES 21,000 to pay the school fees, He was always sent home for school fees something that deprived me of my happiness. I also used KES 5000 to complete the construction of my house which I had started with my first but it stop due to lack of finances. Previously, I was living in a semi-permanent house that requires constant maintenance. Lastly, I spent the remaining amount, to acquire sufficient food for the family of 8 because of the food deficit in our area that was brought by the drought conditions.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received the money message, I felt so excited and overwhelmed for receiving a huge amount of money that was unusual. It was a sunny morning when I had left home for the field to graze my livestock. I had left my phone too. In the noontime when I returned home is when my eyes did almost not believe what they were seeing on the phone after seeing the transfer message. I felt relieved since I knew I was going to settle some of the issues which have been bothering me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I own a good house now. Initially my living situation was poor. Sometime I could go without food, no good shelter and poor clothing. But since the day I received your support my life have greatly changed positively and am seeing bright days. I live in a good house not as before, when I used to live in a small-poor house. We can now afford some food not as before when we used to sleep hungry. All this is because Give Direct is at my rescue, I appreciate the support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Being a mother of 7 children, the priority was on the shelter of my children. In that regard I opted to construct a spacious house to accommodate my family since we were living in a congested house which was not in good condition. Initially we had already started constructing a big house but it was incomplete due to lack of materials which required a lot of money. My husband being a wine tapper, he wasn’t in a position to complete the construction. The money we received from GiveDirectly was like manna from heaven. We used it to purchase 26 pieces of iron sheets which cost KES 24700.00. I also took some of the money to settle settled some fee balances for my children and saved the rest for the family use.

What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is during the evening after I have accomplished all my days work and I am with my husband and children enjoying our supper- this is the time I feel very comfortable and happy.
