How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would want to furnish my home and put tapped water. After accomplishing this, I would also want to start my own small business of selling household stuff so as to substitute my casual job salary. This would mean that I will be able to cater for my family's basic needs with much ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done and a great job and should continue in the same way in all the villages. The process was smooth and fair to all.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a casual labourer in a certain agricultural company and I am also a mother of two beautiful kids. I have been staying at my mums house, but I have always wanted to have my own home. When I received my second transfer, I knew that the first thing I would do was to build myself a good house to stay with my kids. I bought everything that was needed for that work. This costed me Ksh 35,000 and I am thankful for it. My younger sister had been sent home for school fees arrears so I gave her Ksh 10,000 to have it cleared so she could go back to continue with her studies.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I was traveling home from work and the only person I informed was my mother then. I actually never thought that GiveDirectly could really make good their promise of sending us the cash until I saw the message from them.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the house that I built. For a long time I had had the desire to build a new house after I left my matrimonial home and came back to my parents. The income that I got from the casual work that I engaged in was hardly enough to make ends meet for us and hence I could not be able to build the house yet. Nothing is so fulfilling and satisfying as having the house complete and living in there independently.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 25000 to buy iron sheets and used the remaining amount to buy other building materials for my new house. I am happy that the house that we built is now complete and my two children finally have a place they can proudly call their home. All along I was living with my parents in their house and I felt the urge to build my own house and I am happy that I finally was able to build one. The amount of money that I made from the casual work that I engaged in was just enough to buy food for my children and pay their school fees. I am so grateful to GIVEDIRECTLY for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I was given a room by my parents to accommodate my household as I have two children and I made a decision not to be married. Receiving this money means using 40,000 KES to build a two-room house that will shelter my family. I will use the remaining amount to start a cafe in Ganze town.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My elder sister bought me two dresses which both cost 1,600 KES. This made me feel loved and it gave me a lot of joy and happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
School fees. I am taking care of my children single-handedly. When I don't have money to pay school fees that means my child will stay at home till I clear the school fees.
Lack of a house. Staying with my parents and I have my children is not easy, at times I have differences with them.
