How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
There is really a great difference in my life after receiving the unconditional transfers. I would not be where I am at the moment since I was lacking a lot. School fees payment was a great struggle, and no one would find some extra money to buy livestock or construct new houses but all the above have been made possible thanks to the support I received from GD.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the act of giving people unconditional transfers was a good idea. This was a job well done by GiveDirectly since it enabled people to buy livestock construct houses and also pay school fees. I believe all went well and there is nothing to complain about.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfers on the construction of a new house, the one I was living in was old and the roof was leaking. I constructed this house in my early years and now it has served me long enough. Besides that, I also paid school fees for my children to mean they no longer have to stay at home due to school fees arrears. With the remaining amount I bought a heifer for rearing and a few foodstuffs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a heifer. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it is very costly for me. I depend on the manual jobs in the village to earn an income to meet basic needs of my family and also pay school fees for my children. I could not get any extra income to buy a dairy cow. Currently, I have a heifer and this has given me hope that I will get enough milk in the next few months when the cow reproduces. I will also be in a position to sell the surplus milk to earn an income to meet other additional needs for my family and pay school fees for my children. I am so much grateful because GiveDirectly has brought hope for us. I did not know that one day I will own a dairy cow.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy. I remember it was very early in the money when I heard a message from my phone. When I checked it it was a message from GiveDirectly confirming that I have received 55000 KES. I could not sleep anymore because of happiness. I have never received such amount before in my entire life. I knew I would be in position to buy a dairy cow and pay school fees for my daughter in college.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to pay school fees for my daughter in college, I also bought food and clothes for my children and the rest of the money I used it to buy a heifer. It has been so costly for me to buy milk daily and this prompted me to buy a heifer so that in the next few months when it reproduces I will get enough milk and cut the cost of buying milk.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My son completed high school last year and passed.He is to proceed to college early next year.I have been wondering how I will be able to raise his college fees considering that am the sole breadwinner.When I heard that GiveDirectly will be coming to our village,I sighed saying that my prayer has been answered.Receiving this money means that I will be able to send my son to school and use the remainder to meet the other basic needs at home
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.This is the time that I have completed all my work for the day and returned home to my family.At this time,I get to rest for a while as I prepare dinner for my family.Having accomplished my goals for the day makes this time the happiest for me
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising school fees for my children single handedly.Being a single mother,all the burden of raising a family falls on me alone.My children are all in school,I do not have any source of income nor a skill that could be utilized to earn money.At the end of each day the family must eat and be clothed as well.It has always been a struggle and so many times I have resorted to borrowing from relatives and well wishers.Next year,my son will be in college and this means that the struggle to get money will even be harder
