How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to be able to start a small business that will give me extra income. I do not know which business exactly but I am hopeful that I will be able to get enough money and settle on a business that will help me sustain my family better. I am happy that I was able to get money from GiveDirectly that enabled me accomplished most of the things that I had purposed to accomplish.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did well by giving everyone support conditionality and in the training they gave before the transfers were sent out. The trainings were very helpful in opening up our minds on the possible investment areas while the unconditionality part opened up choices for us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 10000 to buy goats for keeping and used the remaining amount to complete construction of a house I had built with the first transfer. Goat rearing has always been in my my mind and this was a perfect opportunity to implement it having received transfers from GiveDirectly. I had also built a new house with the first transfer and when I received my first transfer I was able to complete the parts that had remained and right now I am glad that I have been able to bring it to completion. I am looking forward to accomplishing even much more going into the future. I still have one child that is in secondary school and all the efforts that I have will be put in to ensure that he gets to complete his education journey successfully.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer I felt very happy and thanked my God.I even sang a very happy song and in end I knelt down. The message arrived in the morning while I was taking breakfast preparing to go to the farm and seriously that was the end of those activities since the happiness that I had could not be contained.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life now is that I am always happy unlike before I had nothing to hold on.Water was a problem and with my old age it was quite a struggle but now with a water tank this has reduced the pressures towards it.I can now dedicate my time to some other activities rather going to the river which is miles away.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to buy a water tank worth 17000 KES, roofing sheets worth 27000 KES and wood frames worth 10000 KES since I wanted to build a house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is a relief to me. I lost my husband twenty years ago. Since then I have been staying with my three children who then got married recently. My age does not allow me to engage in heavy activities such as fetching water from a stream which is far from home. I wish to buy a storage tank which will make work easier for me. This will cost KES. 20,000. I also intend to buy two dairy cattle at a cost of KES. 60,000. The remaining amount will cater for food and clothing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Recently I managed to harvest sweet potatoes in my farm. After selling the yields, I got a profit of KES. 5,000 which was a great boost to my income. I was able to buy food which has since sustained me. I now look forward to do a large scale for this.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
One of the main challenge that I currently face is lack of an income. My son lost a job in a flower company which rendered me poor as I used to depend on him. Sometimes I am forced to skip some meals which is risk to my health. My condition has really worsen and I am worried that I may be prone to some diseases due to my age. I really thank Givedirectly for coming to my homestead.
