How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now because I have a changed standard of living. This is because I was able to complete my house and enter it, buy some household items like a bed, mattress, a set of stools that have beautified my house. Before getting this money I really had no hope of ever sleeping under an iron roofed house as I could never be in position to raise such big amount of money. In addition to this, the health of my family and myself has improved as we feed really well and on time. Prior to getting this money, we could survive on one meal, or no meal at all. Although at times, during the mango season, we survived on mangoes.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well by giving me unconditional money that has enabled me to carry out a lot of my financial activities. On the other hand, there is nothing bad that GiveDirectly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy more building materials such as a door, a window, cement, sand, bricks, and paying up the labor that I used to complete my house that I had started building using my first transfer. I then bought some household items such as a mattress, bed, bed sheets, a set of stools, and food stuffs. I then gave my father part of my transfer as an appreciation to complete the debt on my marriage. I am saving up some money that I plan to use to hire farm land in the next season.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I build an ironsheets 2 bedroom house. The current house we are living in is grass thatched and grass is very scarce following the dry spell. The current house is also very small to accommodate the whole family. I will also rent some agricultural land because we are currently practicing agriculture on small scale. This will ensure our food security and also bring income because we shall sale some food crops.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up healthy because I will be ready to work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of agricultural land. Agriculture is the main source of income in our household but there is no land to practice it.
