How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After utilizing the second transfer as per my plans, I developed another goal of building a good and spacious house for my family. Currently the house we are using is very small and too squeezed thus, if I get some money I will look into constructing a spacious one.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
On my side, GiveDirectly did a good empowering exercise. Soon I will be having an income generating source which is the rental houses and this will greatly help me and my family. Initially things were a bit tough because I did not have a defined source of income but now I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon withdrawing the money, I first took KES 15000.00 and added stock to my shop. I had started the shop business after getting the first transfer but since it was a new thing I did not keep a lot of items to see how it will run first before investing much on it. Thereafter, I bought a piece of land for KES 30000.00. This piece of land is for business purposes, as at now construction of rental houses is ongoing. I also took KES 5000.00 and paid school fees for my primary school children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was 9 am in the morning I was from taking a bath. When I checked my phone I found that I had received money from Give Directly. I was very happy since at that moment my children had already been sent home for school fees and I did not have any source for school fees so the money had come at the right time. So I went ahead and told my husband and we sat down and started planning on how to use it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Well my biggest difference is the upgrade in my living standards. I have multiple sources of income and also it as eased my troubles in terms of water. I now use my motorcycle to fetch water from faraway places. I am also able to sell some water and get money too. So I can say my life has changed for the better because of the funds,

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means proper education for my child. My first born boy is joining secondary school soon. Therefore I am planning to use 500 dollars from the transfer to pay for his school fees. I want my child to have the best experience in school and at the same time get enough time to study. I will therefore pay his full year's school fees so that he can have ample time with books. I will use the balance to construct a two bedroom house for my family. We live in a single room house which is nolonger sustainable for my expanding family and getting a spacious house will be good for us.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. Waking up in the morning alive and healthy makes me happy and I thank God for the gift of life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is lack of a reliable source of income to cater for my family's basic needs. I rely on my husband's kiosk business to sustain my family, a business that is not well rewarding. This has made my life miserable in the village.
