Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9am when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I was taking care of my cows. When checked it out I couldn't believe my eyes .it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and immediately called my family to inform them. They were so happy too because we have been waiting for this. I knew I would be able to pay school fees.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a water tank. I had always wished to own one but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and causal jobs. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household basic needs. I don't had the extra money to buy a water tank. We used to walk for a long distance to collect clean water for domestic uses. This was so tiresome and time-consuming. The water that we could collect from the turf was not so clean and this means we were being exposed to water related diseases. Currently I have a water tank. We no longer waste time to go to the river. We have sufficient water. We have save time to do other activities at home. I am so happy because were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have happened.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 23,000 to purchase a water tank. This had enabled us to get clean water for domestic uses. I paid school fees for my children in various schools. They were able to study well without being disturbed. The rest of the money I bought a heifer and food. I will get enough milk when my dairy cow reproduce in the next few months. I am so grateful for support because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means better Education for my children. Currently i have 3 children in secondary school and am struggling so much to pay their school fees since I depend only on casual jobs. I will spend ksh 70,000 on paying school fees and clearing pending fee balance, I will also use ksh 30,000 to buy a dairy cow for the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest of my day is in the evening. This is because it is the time when I get enough rest after a busy day of going up to do casual jobs and making sure that my family have something to eat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Without a reliable source of income it has been difficult to meet the basic needs for my family. This is because I depend only on casual jobs and Farming and of late the production from the farm has been so poor leaving me without any soure of income.
