How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not have received money from give directly I could not have managed to pay school fee for my grandchildren and for sure they could be still staying at home. I could also not managed to boost my business and I could have closed the business down but I am glad the business is now doing very well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly well by using empesa as away of sending us money since it is very convenient and safe. It was also a good idea of dealing with people directly and not involving third party.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to buy plastering materials which I have used in plastering my house, since it was too dusty that I could not wish to stay in it any more being that the dust was affecting my family health . The floor was also not easy to maintain and even clean because of it's condition and also being that I am too old, I could spend a lot of time cleaning the house and equally alot of money in maintaining the house. Since I plastered my house l spend less time and resources in cleaning the house. I also avoid frequent maintains of the floor which is very costly. I am now staying in a nice plastered house that I was always dreaming to posses. I also spent the transfer to pay college fee and secondary fee for my grandchildren. My grandchildren were sent home for school and college fee arrears and their parents where down financially , this was stressing me because I did not want them to stay at home while others are learning so i spent the money to pay their fee. The remaining balance I spent to boost my business of selling second hand clothes, the business is now doing very well that I am able to get enough profit for my daily use.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a cow and a goat for my family. I will spend the remaining amount on renting some land so that I can plant sugarcane on it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I go to my farm to plough maize. This makes me happy as it forms part of my family's source of food when I harvest the crops.

The biggest hardship I face in my life is that ever since my husband died, I have been struggling alone to get food as finding a well paying job is a challenge for an old person like me.
