Due to the insecurity of our home and the risk of losing goats to wild attacks. I believe it's very important we secure it. This will give us peace of mind. Fencing our compound well will cost approximately $300. Meaning our goats and we will be safe from surprise animal attacks.
Our family business has been down. We are a maize milling business. Lack of sufficient income to buy stock has affected it. We plan to add more maize stock. One bag of maize now costs $60. We'll buy 5 bags to raise our sales income. This means we'll have more profits to support our family.
Goats have been doing well here since the times of our forefathers. It's strategic to add more stock. In addition to the 30 we currently have. We plan to buy 10 more, which can cost upwards of $500. More goats mean we can have more income through their sales. It will help us during times of emergencies and also support our children's education. We can also slaughter the goats for home consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It makes me happy to be with my husband and our 6 children. It's a joy seeing them grow up so fast. This has made my life worth it.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our biggest problem is the security of our home. We live in an open compound. It's not safe to stay like this. There's always some fear of the unknown.
We have about 30 goats and we sleep worried about their safety. Wild animals such as hyenas or wild dogs can strike at any time giving us losses. They have previously attacked twice in the last 2 years. This makes us worried about losing some of the goats that give us income.
