My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought four goats. I had always wished to start goat rearing project but I didn't had money to buy. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had savings neither. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on this amazing project. Goats reproduce twice per year. This is the best investment because I will sell them to buy a dairy cow or even pay school fees for my children. I am so happy because this has given me hope to still strive for the best. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on buying four goats, clothes, furniture, I also top up some amount to clear the balance for the land that I had bought before and the rest of the money I started poultry keeping project. This will earn me an income by selling eggs at the market.

I was at home when I received the SMS saying that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I was immediately filled with happiness and I informed my husband of the good news. This transfer is going to bring a lot of changes in my life and that of my family. Having bought the chain link and the barbed wire, I will be able to fence my compound and hence my chicken will no longer be going to the neighbor’s farm. This way I will no longer be worried about my chicken going to destroy the crops of my neighbor and hence there will be no more arguments between us. The chicken that I bought will also be of great value to me. I will be able to get products such as eggs that I can sell. The money that I get, I will use to buy small and everyday needs that usually come up like buying writing materials for my children who are attending school. Also, with this cow that I bought, I will be able to get milk that my family can consume and I will sell some. The money that I get from the sales, I can use to pay for my children’s school fees and buy food for my family.

This transfer has helped me in various ways. I bought chain link wire and barbed wire that I wanted to use in fencing the compound and constructing the chicken’s house. I also used part of the money to pay a debt that I owed someone. There is a cow that I usually take care of that belongs to someone. I bought the cow from him and I had paid half the money to him. So when I received the transfer from GiveDirectly, I decided to pay the other half that I still owed him. I also bought fifteen chickens with some of the money and a bag of maize that will serve as food for my family. This money also helped me in buying windows for my house, the windows that are there had become old and so I decided to change them. I have always wanted to do the above things but due to lack of money, I was not in a position to.
