How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has really changed since I started receiving these transfers. My family and I never sleep hungry due to lack of food unlike before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has come to help us by enriching our livelihood. With the transfers that they give us, we are able to support ourselves by buying food and also ensuring that our other basic needs are well met.
We pray that GiveDirectly lives long to continue serving us and the less privileged I our communities.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With these transfers, I managed to buy three sacks of maize. This was a guarantee that my family and I will have sufficient food in the next couple of months.
I also bought two goats to add to the previous herd that I had bought with the first transfer.
With the remaining part of transfer, I did a customary wedding which was a great success.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my transfer I felt so excited and thanked Give Directly for the support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is since I received the transfer is having been able to meet my family's needs without struggling a lot. Previously, I had to burn charcoal in order to feed my family but currently I can meet these needs and even more without having to do the casual work. My health has also improved because I fo not have to do the hard chores in order to provide for family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought 8 goats for rearing with a larger portion of the recent transfer. They are a good investment since they are easy to manage and being that our area is arid they are the best for this climate. They also give birth twice a year and in most cases to twins. A portion of the money I spent on my bedding so that I could replace the old worn out that I had previously.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being the sole provider for my family my ambition is to have a better source of income to meet our needs. Receiving this money therefore means purchasing goats for rearing. I will be selling them to generate funds as they multiply. Goats survive in this area because they can stay for a long time without taking water. Since this place is drought stricken for the better part of the year, these animals are advantaged. Besides, they multiply very fast thus giving high returns.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Imagine spending a whole day under the schorching sun trying to make ends meet! This is my daily life as I look for money to feed my family. Burning charcoal is not a walk in the park and resting is something I always look forward to. This only happens in the evening after such a long day of hard work, making it the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Casual jobs such as burning charcoal are my main source of income. The returns are insufficient hence making it difficult to comfortably meet our needs. I can not even account for my earnings because I use as I earn. This makes me unable to save any extra cash for future use, thus I cannot respond to emergencies such as medical care without asking for support from my relatives. All these problems are results of lack of enough money which is my biggest hardship.
