What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the cash to lease a farm where I planted sugarcane on the two acre farm. I have an intention of getting a bumper harvest by harvesting time so that I can get good returns that I will sell to the sugarcane factory. I will then use the proceeds to sustain my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think the organization doe s a good thing by giving money to the poor who have been living below the poverty line for so long. The money helps to uplift the living standards from one level to the other.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers from GD helped me to cultivate the two acres of land which i could not have cultivated were it not for the money from the organization. I also have money to keep my family going by buying enough food in a very easy manner as opposed to how much I used to struggle so much in the past.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer to facilitate the purchase of household appliances and food for my family members.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy and I was convinced that this was not just but a story but a reality. I lacked words at that moment when I was my mpesa message.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I am able to feed my family with ease unlike before it was a hustle to put food on the table for my household members. I return the credit back to Give Directly for the unconditional transfers that is changing lives.

The biggest hardship that I am facing is not having a stable source of income to rely on. On many nights, we have been forced to sleep hungry because i could not afford to buy food to feed my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening after finishing my work at the quarry site.I am happy at this time because, I manage to meet with my friends at our local centre, to watch football and also share stories.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can manage to renovate my current house that is not only small but also leaking. During the rainy season, we really suffer because it is normally very cold.
