How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, I do not have any source of income instead I rely on my spouse for everything. I'm not comfortable depending on my spouse for everything and furthermore, he has a lot of responsibilities to meet. I'm happy I bought two dairy cows with the first transfer and I believe that after they have given birth I'll have enough supply of milk both for family consumption and for sale hence I'll be assured of a reliable income. This is how different my life is currently.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD is more transparent on how they operate and they do not give false promises. They give the exact amount they promise at the exact time they promise to give. This makes them stand out from other NGOs.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My spouse works in Mombasa town but he hasn't gotten time to come back home. I haven't, therefore, spent the recent transfer instead I have saved them as wait for my spouse to come home so that we plan together on how to spend the money.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life has definitely changed because we now own livestock which has increased our status in the society. Our burden has also been reduced because we were able to pay part of our daughter's school fees which was the biggest challenge we had as a family. We are glad that our child can now comfortably stay in school without the fear of being sent away due to school fees balance.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had no idea that the money had been sent until my helper called to ask if I had received my share. Because I don't know how to read, I had to immediately rush to her house so that she could help me confirm if I had received the money. When I got to her house, she confirmed that the money had been sent and we couldn't help but celebrate together as friends and shared some of our plans.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent most of my transfer on two dairy cows. It has been our biggest dream as a family to own livestock but we could not achieve that dream due to low income especially because I don't have any source of income and mostly depend on my husband for our daily needs. I was also able to pay part of my daughter's school fees for this term which has

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to improve my family's economic status. I plan to use it to set up a sardines business within bamba town and also purchase two dairy cows that will give me milk for selling. I have always wished to have an income generating activity that will enable me to get extra source of income to help my husband take care of our family since our needs have surpassed his earnings. However, this has always been barred by lack of sufficient finances to off start the ventures.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am normally happy in the evening when my children return home from school and I get people to assist me with babysitting my two last borns who are very troublesome. For the better part of the day when they are away in school, I tend to get overwhelmed since I have to do all the household chores ranging from cleaning the house, fetching water, cooking lunch and taking care of the young ones who are a handful for one person.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Attaining finances to enable me seek treatment for my sons sickness is the biggest hardship that I face in life. For the past six years,he has been suffering from an undiagnosed foot condition that has gradually caused his right foot to swell and the wound is ever fresh. It has refused to heal despite all my efforts to seek treatment in different hospitals. All tests have been conducted including the diabetes test but they all turn out negative. The painful part for me as a mother is that he is always in so much pain and was even forced to drop out of school when it became impossible for him to be going regularly yet I have no way of helping him. This treatments have drained most of our resources and I can only hope that one day we will be able to get a cure for his illness.
