Prior to receiving the money I had the intention of wanting to build a house because the one I lived in had collapsed forcing me to sleep in the same place I stored my chicken which was very uncomfortable for me. I also had plans to settle all the tuition debts that I had accumulated over time over the studies of my children and maybe also hoped if I got the chance of getting money maybe I would also preferably buy some livestock

I am very thankful to this organization for choosing to elevate people like me from poverty because the debts I had from the kids tuition was stressful to me and I had no idea how I would have catered for it and on top of it I got to buy food to feed my family because the rain has been so rare even farming is unfruitful, but the funds I received helped me take care of the nutrition for my family and soon enough I will have my own house and a better place to put my head. All in all there has been a great transition in our lives and for that we most grateful.

When the funds arrived I went ahead and bought two goats so that I could rear which cost me KES 8,000 then I also opted to deal with the tuition debts I had so for my son who was in highschool I gave the administration KES 10,000 so that my son would continue studying without the hindrance of perhaps being sent back home. I also purchased iron sheets for roofing of the house that I would eventually build for KES 26,600 since I bought twenty eight of them. Then lastly I bought a sack of maize for KES 3,500 that I planned on taking to the mill and twenty five kilograms of rice which was KES 2,500 plus the fare which was KES 200.

My phone was on charge the morning I received my transfer this is because we had power outages in our area. I was doing my daily household chores as usual until around 10 am when I decided to switch the phone on. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Mpesa message from GiveDirectly indicating that I had received my transfer. I felt extremely happy because my dream of owning livestock will eventually be attained.

The biggest difference in daily life is that I am able to meet the basic needs of my family especially food and education without struggling. With the help of the aid, I was able to acquire 2 local dairy cows which provide sufficient milk for the family as well as selling extra to my neighbours. I am able to feed my family well unlike before where they use to return to school without food or even go to bed hungry something that troubled me a lot.

I spent KES 30,500 to purchase 2 local dairy cows and one sheep. I had desire for a very long time to own livestock so that I may have a steady supply of milk for my family, but due to financial problem I have not been able to fulfill it. Currently, I am able to get milk for the family consumption since one of my cow has already given birth. Previously, I was buying milk which was relatively expensive or even borrow from my neighbor whenever I lacked cash. I also purchased a mattress for KES 4500, back in the days I was using an old mat and sleeping on the floor which was not comfortable. I was always feeling body pains every morning after waking up. Furthermore, I invested KES10,000 on my 4 children education by paying their school fees, the elder son is in form 3 and the other in primary school. In addition, I purchase a pair of school uniform for each of the children who are in primary. They were going to school wearing casual clothes while the other pupils on uniforms which make my feel embarrassed. The remaining amount assisted me in purchase sufficient food for the family.
