What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on buying on three cows. I decided to invest in in cattle because of their milk production. Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I can now cater for my family needs with easily on time. Starting my own motorcycle business has increased my daily income and this has enabled me to meet my family daily necessities. I used to operate a motorcycle taxi for my neighbor to help me provide for my family. It was challenging meeting my employer's expectations thus I used to overwork myself and making it worse is the little payment that I got at the end of each day. Having had enough experience in the motorcycle taxi business, I desired so much to buy my own so that I could increase my daily income. This could not happen with the overwhelming family needs that relied on my little daily wages. Currently, I feel that my life has greatly changed ever since I bought a second-hand motorcycle using part of my first transfer. I currently enjoy a lot of freedom since I set my target of the day and enjoy more income a day than before. Even if I make less money in a day, I am always proud of it since it is all mine. I am thankful to GiveDirectly for financial assistance.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was after waking up in the morning when I realized that GiveDirectly had finally honored their promise to us. When GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I could not believe that I would also benefit from the program. Receiving this money cleared the doubts in my mind and made me a happier person.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I built a spacious decent house for my family using part of my first transfer. I settled on this since I had been living in a one-room house that could not comfortably accommodate us. I had wished to upgrade this but I was not able to due to limited resources. When I received my transfer, I bought building materials and paid labor costs for the construction of a new house. I used the remaining amount to buy a second-hand motorcycle after topping up some amount. I had been doing a motorcycle taxi business for one of my neighbors and I usually got paid KES 300 per day. Compared to what I used to earn, my pay was little. Having gotten experience in this motorcycle taxi business, I knew investing in this business is worth it and I am happy that I have realized the advantage.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a motorbike rider and the only breadwinner of my family, receiving this money will enable me to start up poultry farming project that my spouse will manage so that she can support me in providing for the family. I also plan to buy one dairy cow that will also help boost our daily income and at the same time this will help me save the amount i usually spend in buying milk for family consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails waking up as early as 6.00am to go work. As a motorcycle rider, i spend the whole day on the roads transporting my clients as well as other goods. Coming back home in the evening is the happiest part of my day since its the time i reunite with my family as i take a rest
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability has been the biggest hardship i have faced since being an employed motorbike rider, the income i earn daily goes to buying food and other essential needs such as clothes for my family. It has been hard to join savings groups to save some money that would enable me to start up more profitable businesses like my peers do, hence this has made me lag behind in terms of progressing in life.
