How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The fact that I now own two cows in my compound is biggest difference. I had a wish of owning and rearing a cow one day but I never thought that would be this soon. I am already getting the fruits of rearing. Apart from the supply of milk for our use, I am able to sell the excess for an income. I am glad that in the near future, the second cow I bought will have calved and I will have a good number of litres of milk to sell. I also have one bigger house now which I did not have. I lived in one small house did not have a sitting room. The transfers from GiveDirectly made this possible.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, I loved that everyone in the entire village was visited and received the transfer. There was no case of fraud or any such case. Everything was well done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of the transfer received to buy a cow for rearing to add to the one initially bought with the first transfer. From the sale of milk I get from the cows, I will have an extra income to look after my family. I also built another house and a bought a phone with the rest.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
In my daily life, owning a cow that produces milk twice every day is indeed the biggest difference. Before receiving the first transfer, we would always buy milk from the neighboring shopping center. This was too expensive for us to manage since we never had a consistent source of income. On some days, we would go without milk and when we managed to buy, still it wasn't enough for the whole household. We are now grateful that we currently produce enough both for domestic use and surplus for sale.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the first transfer, I was really filled with joy. It was a great day in my life and to the household at large since we saw it as an opportunity to make our dreams come true. It was unbelievable at first but after hearing celebrations from the neighboring households, we felt it was really true and was our time too to celebrate. We are still grateful to GiveDirevtly for the great help they accorded us and it is our prayer that they continue helping other people the way they helped us.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Upon receiving the first transfer from GiveDirectly, We sat as a family and made a decision to spend the first part of it on buying a lactating cow. The decision was brought about by the fact that we had been spending a lot of money over the last few years buying milk. The second part of it went to the purchase of clothing right from the school uniform s for our children to our own clothing; we added bedding for our children since they were using the old ones. With the remaining amount, we paid school fees and ensured that we had enough foodstuff which will serve us for quite sometimes before receiving the second transfers.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me complete building my house.I built a wooden house but have not been able to complete it due to insufficient funds. My child also started school recently and since am a single parent and he depends on me alone,I intend to buy two heifers which with time will not only provide milk for home consumption but also for sale hence through this I will be able to educate my son.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend most of my days at the school where I teach. While there,am mostly happy. This is because I get to interract with colleagues as well as students.Sharing ideas and teaching makes me happy and hence this is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is paying for my university education.Since I began,I have not been able to fully attend to my studies and am sometimes forced to defer when I fail to pay fees.I would have graduated by now but am two semesters behind because of this.I have been relying on a casual teaching job at a nearby school but sometimes they fail to pay on time or pay in small bits hence this affects my studies.
