How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goal that didn't had was to purchase sofa set seats. I had other things that I had put as my priorities. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I found it wise to buy nice sofa set seats for the new house that I had just competed constructing.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better house and to pay school fees for their children in various schools. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 15,000 to pay school fees for my children in secondary school and primary school. I am so happy because they were able to study without being sent home. I bought sofa set seats, clothes, food and the rest of the money I used it to plough my farm and bought seeds. I had already planted maize and I hope to get enough food for the family this season.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a normal day with chores to carry out at my work station when I heard my phone ringing, upon checking I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, I was overwhelmed with happiness, it was the happiest day of my life, My son had been sent home for fees and I had no a place to run to, the transfer brought hope in my life and I was thankful because it came at the right time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer was God sent, it came at the right time of need, My son had been sent home to collect the remaining fee arrears. I was glad that I managed to comfortably foot the balance unlike before where he could stay at home for more than a month. I am so grateful for the support that brought forth good tidings.

I am a mother of five children, I work as a house help in the Village in my neighbour's house. school fees as been my major worry, due to the little income that I earn, I normally depend on well-wishers and bursaries. I was so relieved when I received my transfer because my son had been sent home to collect school fees, therefore I used my transfer in paying school fees of KES 10,000, I then bought furniture worth KES 8000. Lastly, I bought three bags of maize worth KES 10500 so that we have enough foodstuff in the house. I am so grateful for the support that changed our lives greatly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My dream has been to live in a well furnished house.I built my house from the savings I earned from my casual work.i was unable to buy furnitures due to limited capital. This transfers will now enable me buy furnitures worth KES 20000. I also want to buy a dairy cow worth KES 25000 because I do not own one at moment.I spent approximately KES 1800 on milk every month. This cow will provide milk for my family and hence we shall be food secure.I shall also buy three dairy goats each at KEs 4000 .Goats do well in this region because of the vegetation and weather.I shall sell the milk and earn a daily income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I work as an house help at chepalungu from morning to evening. Evening is the happiest part of my day because I get a chance to rest and interact with my kids.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Hunger has been a big challenge in my family. This is mainly caused by insufficient finances .I work as an house help at chepalungu where I earn KES 4000 per month. I distribute this money into several activities such as fee payment ,food and clothing in my family. Sometimes I sacrifice most of the income for fees and thus we sleep on one meal a day.
