How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With my previous transfers, I managed to build a better house made of iron sheets which we never imagined we shall build anytime soon. We were living in a grass thatched house that was not in good shape. I had saved Kes 20000 so that I would spend on buying furniture and that's my new goal at the moment. Furnishing my house is what is remaining at the moment and I believe on a few wells I will have bought a table and some seats.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly lived up to their promise, they delivered the promisee of the transfer which they had promised us. That's a clear indication that they did what they told us. I never saw anything that wasn't good or that wasn't done well as everything went on well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In my second transfer received, I spent part of it on buying iron sheets for completing a house that I had started constructing with the money which I had received as my first transfer. I then bought some bedding and a few clothes for my family members. The remaining amount of KES 20000, I saved so that I can spend on buying some furniture for my new house.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7 am while lighting a fire in the kitchen in preparation to cook breakfast. That's when I received a message alert on my phone. I checked and confirmed to have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I was very happy and took breakfast joyfully that morning.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily since I started receiving these transfers is the building of an iron-roofed house. This had always been my dream for the past year and GiveDirectly has made it a reality. Once its construction is complete it will accommodate visitors. Additionally, I am grateful because I have access to things that I couldn't afford. For example, through the transfers, I now have a heifer that will soon reproduce and be an additional source of milk for my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a mother of three and have been a casual laborer to feed my family. Daily, I get KES 100 which caters to household needs. When GiveDirectly transfers came, I spent KES 30,000 on the construction of a 24 Iron roofed house. This is because we only had one tiny house which served as a kitchen and bedroom for the past two years. This was too tiny to accommodate visitors. Secondly, I spent KES 10,000 on a heifer. This is because I had only one dairy cow which is now on its dry spell. Once this reproduces it will be an additional milk source. Hence additional income for the payment of school fees. Thirdly, I spent KES 7,000 on the latest clothing fashion and beddings. This time around we bought the latest clothing fashion unlike before when we used to put second-hand clothes. Lastly, I spent KES 3,000 on a bag of maize which will sustain us longer compared to before when we could only afford a few kilos of maize meal. Additionally, I spent KES 1,000 on the settlement of a milk bill.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money I will use KES 40000 to buy a cow. This will help me produce milk for my children and tap more income through the sale of milk. I will also plan KES 50000 to build a two-roomed house made of iron sheets for my family. This will help us have some privacy with my children now that we are living in one grass-thatched house. I work casually to earn a living. This money is insufficient for us making it an uphill task for me to build my family a better house and buy them a cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I foresee a bumper harvest this season now that my maize is doing well. Every morning I go to my farm and have a look. This makes me feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am struggling to put food on the table for my family. I rely on casual jobs which earns me KES 200 daily. This money is little and not enough to sustain us making me struggle financially to support my family.
