How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With these transfers, my family basic needs have been well catered for. We no longer lack food or any other basic need.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is like a life saver, with these transfers that they're giving out they have been able to save and upgrade our families so much. Our dreams are now becoming a reality and we are so grateful to be a part of this amazing organisation.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With these transfers, I was able to purchase nine goats. I decided to buy these since it has always been my dream to have some livestock in my homestead. Now I am very happy that my dream was fulfilled. The rest of the money, I bought some food stuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was about 10 am when I received my transfer. I was at my usual place of work preparing charcoal for sale. I jumped with joy because my dream of having an alternative source of livelihood was finally about to be achieved.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Having an alternative source of income for my family to replace the charcoal vending job is the biggest difference in my life. I am assured that the my chest problem will get permanent solution.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $ 290 to start a livestock rearing activity. I began by purchasing 11goats, this is because the charcoal vending activity I was depending on brought me chest problems which made me be constantly under medication. Also, I used $ 100 to complete roofing of my house which stopped due to lack of enough money. The remaining amount helped me to purchase enough food staffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me complete the construction of my house. I went short of iron sheets and a little bit of finishing. This will cost me 50 USD. I also have a plan of buying 5 goats and 1 cow. What I like about livestock farming is the fact that the number increases within a short time. This acts as a cushion especially when I lack money to buy food and satisfy other needs. I have budgeted 350 USD for this.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning especially when I wake up healthy and strong. Most of my daily duties involve physical jobs like fetching water, firewood and sometimes going to the farm. These jobs require a lot of energy that's why I feel happy waking up healthy in the morning.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Prolonged drought in our region has made it difficult to get food to feed my family. I struggle a lot to buy food because my little income from casual jobs cannot satisfy all the basic needs. Sometimes when I have no money at all, I am forced to buy food on credit from a nearby shop. This forces me into debt which I don't really like because I also struggle a lot paying back. My biggest hardship is food security.
