What does receiving this money mean to you?
As an old couple, this money will mean a lot for us especially our livelihood. Last year, we did not manage to grow enough crops due to poor fertilizer application as it was very little and the money from selling pigeon peas was not very good. We managed to earn MK50,0000.00. This however was kept to buy food and other necessities as well as keeping some for seeds. This money that we will receive from Give Directly will go towards building a better house with iron sheets, some clothes and also other items.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The good thing that we have experienced over the past several months is that we have been in good health. We do not complain of any pain apart from waning strength due to old age. I am also surrounded by houses of my children and grandchildren so I know they will take care of me is something happens to me or my wife.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of food is the main challenge we face as we have never harvested enough to last us the whole year. I am old and we rarely have enough strength to farm a large piece of land. Every rainy season we get worried due to the condition of the house as it is not in good shape. When there is wind,we tend to sleep in the kitchen as it is more stable than the bigger house. I believe this money will help us reduce some of these problems we face.
