How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I now sleep comfortably on a good bed, mattress and bed sheets. I have my motorbike which generates income to the family through the boda boda business. It has eased movements for the family members for example I am able to take my family members to hospital incase of sickness.
Previously, I slept on a mat which was hard and uncomfortable. In addition to this, I relied on casual labor to earn a living.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well to visit people at household level during enrollment. To me, this exposed to them the poverty level in my village. There is nothing wrong with their work.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer for buying a second hand bajaj motobike for doing a boda boda business.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having got back my land that I had mortgaged. Since I am a family man, this land will help me in mixed and extensive farming which in the long run will curb famine out breaks in my family. Before getting this money, I used to hire farm land which was expensive as at times I had to give up the food crops in the hired land as payment for it.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Since I had mortgaged my personal land to raise money to marry my wife, I had no place to farm. Therefore when I got enrolled, my primary aim was to get it back and the moment I received my money, I felt so happy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer Ugx 1100000 to get back land that I had mortgaged.
I then hired two pieces of farm land at Ugx 300000.
I bought some house hold items such as solar, mattress, bedding and some utensils.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house and buy some animals that I can present to my parents-in-law as bride price.
By so doing, we shall be able to settle together and develope as a family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the noon time when I am carrying my baby and playing with him.
I feel very good when he loughs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is poverty.
Taking care of a family is so hard based on the fact that there is no clear money source.
The piece of land that is available for us to cultivate is too small to accommodate everyone's need.
Only little is done on the side of farming.
I do casual labour mostly to provide for my family.
Some times I even wonder if it shall be well with us.
