How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I do small scale farming at home and the produce that we get is only for family consumption. We sell the small surplus to earn an income to meet other additional basic household items. I didn't expect to buy a cow soon since there was no savings. My spouse also do farming and casual jobs and the money he gets is for the school fees of our children. When I received the second transfer from GiveDirectly it was the best feelings ever since I was in a position to buy a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so expensive for me. Currently I have a dairy cow which is almost giving birth. I will be in a position to have enough milk for my family and even sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to pay school fees for my children. I am so grateful for the support because it has enabled us to own cows and other things which could not have been possible.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and also pay school fees for their children. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly on sofa set seats, clothes, food for for the family and the rest of the money I bought a dairy cow.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfers was around six fourty nine while taking tea as well as preparing my grade four kid for school. We were all very excited and this was the happiest day in our lives as a family and we withdrew the money the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is improved lifestyle from a grass thatched roof house to Iron roofed house semi permanent house which was only a long time dream but now has come true because I couldn't afford one. Once the house is complete I intend to live one of my house for my kids as a I shift to the new one. I am grateful that I have now have a a spacious sitting which can accommodate more visitors at once. I have also bought latest clothes fashions for my family which are now better than the second hand clothes that we could only afford before. I have also bought a sacks of maize, rice and beans which are sources of food and protein to boost my kid's growth.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent 180 USD of my transfer on building a two roomed Iron roofed semi permanent house because initially I had two tiny grass thatched houses. The Iron roofed house is a more spacious and can accommodate up to 15 visitors in one sitting and the Iron roof will be a source of clean water especially during rainy seasons. I spent 25USD on tractor for hire and maize and bean seeds because it's planting season and before I used to plant locally produced seeds and relied on man power. I spent 180USD on clothing for family with each individual spending 30USD on their clothes because we couldn't afford latest fashions hence only were second hand clothes and now we are very neat. I spent 120 USD on three sacks of maize meal for feeding my family because our place is semi arid there are prolonged dry spells which affects food production hence hunger strike.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a family, we have been struggling to build a house with iron-sheet roof so that we can collect rainwater. Unfortunately, the little income we get from our farming practices is inadequate to finance it. Hence, receiving this money means that we shall manage to build a new and better house primarily for collecting rainwater.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The biggest part of my day is in the afternoon after successfully accomplishing most of my household chores. This is the time I take a rest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the practice of carrying a 20-liter jerrican of clean water on daily basis. Since we do not have piped water or a nearby source of clean water, we usually buy water from a vender that is situated about four kilometers from our homestead. To worsen the situation, I am the one tasked with carrying the water on my back.
