How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having money to improve my home is the biggest difference in my life. I would not have achieved this goal without GiveDirectly transfers. I used to spend all my money on school fees. I was always left with nothing to start any project. Building a house was not anywhere close to being achieved despite the dire need to construct one. I am grateful to this organization for helping me meet this goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by sensitizing the people in the villages to spend the money in meaningful ways. Without this sensitization, many would have ended up using in other different ways that may not have had as fruitful results like the ones they recently did. Sensitization is key and enlightening us on some of these income-generating activities is very helpful.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I saved my second transfer with an intention of furnishing and painting my house. I am also planning to buy a heifer. I intend to keep livestock, specifically dairy cows so that I become the only reliable milk producer. I am currently hospitalized after a fell down from a cliff near my homestead. This caused a fracture in one of my legs. I am due to undergo a procedure tomorrow morning. When I fully recover, I will ensure I actualize my goals according to the plan.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Owning a spacious house that you cannot comfortably live on had almost made be among the depressed people. This is because even after my children grew up, none of them ever bothered to help me renovate this house. GiveDirectly s transfer came in handy as it enabled me to achieve this noble task. I am now glad since I have been sleeping well for the past few weeks. I no longer worry about my beddings getting soaked in rain water nor my house getting flooded. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for transforming my life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When my children informed me that GiveDirectly had started sending to people the promised money, I quickly powered on my phone so that I would also know if I was among the lucky people. When I saw an mpesa message, my heart was filled with so much joy. I knew that GD had given a new meaning to my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfers, i spent the all amount in renovating my house. I bought some iron sheets, nails and paid for the labor. I settled on this since the house I was living in was always leaking. Its roofs were old, full of rusts and some parts had completely worn out. I was always not comfortable knowing that I have a big house that I cannot live in comfortably due to leaking roofs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to buy iron sheets, ceilling boards and paints for renovating my house. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow for milking to earn me some income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day. It is the time my children are all back home from their jobs, the time we connect and chat on how the day was.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unpredictable rainfall patterns has been the biggest cause of the hardships we have faced for the past 10 years. This has rendered our lands unproductive hence crop farming is no longer reliable. I am forced to sell milk from my 2 cattle so as to buy food stuff from my family, which is the reason i plan to spend part of my transfer to add one more cow for milking
