How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I started a business and now I can afford day to day feeding of my family. I eat well without having to do a lot of casual work which made me look so old yet I am a young wife and parent. I paid a loan I had taken to buy building materials i. e. iron sheets to renovate my house using the profits I get from my groceries business. I now stress free because I can concentrate on my business without thinking I owe anyone anything.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has really improved the lives of my community members. People have built new houses through
these transfers and improved their businesses from small scale to large scale businesses. I dreamt of venturing into large scale sugarcane farming and it was impossible to do so as I did not have enough funds to do so. I used the transfers to lease large farms, hired a tractor to plough the farms. I can now fulfil that dream and my family will raise more income to improve our lifestyle.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Sugarcane farming on a large scale has been my dream but I have been hindered from doing this because I did not enough farms. I used the transfer to lease three more farms. I also hired a tractor to plough the farms and also bought sugarcane seeds. I expanded my groceries business by extending the structure where I sell and even adding more stock. All these sources of income will result in an increase in profits and hence provision for my household and other personal needs will be sufficiently met.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means self employment to me. I plan to start a business of selling second hand clothes in our local market. This will make me to be independent and have a source of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when working in my farm. I like growing vegetables for the consumption of my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life was losing my parents when I was still a young lady. I had to drop out of school to get married because my siblings were unable to raise my school fees. Unfortunately I also lost my husband just after five years. This has left me with a lot of responsibilities since I am the sole bread winner for the family.
