Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My son was admitted to join a national school since He had done well in his primary level of education. I was provided with the requirements sheet and I couldn't finish going through it, for it required a lot of money and kept thinking on where I could get all that money from. I am happy that through the GiveDirectly transfers, my son is now happily in school after doing a good shopping for him too.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had taken my phone for charging that morning when my neighbour came to me and asked if I had received any notification from GiveDirectly. I hurriedly went for my phone and switched on curious to know if indeed it was true. On reading through the string of notifications, I read the one I anxiously waiting for, it was true that I had received my first transfer. I was very happy and joyous and thankful at the same time for receiving the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the biggest portion of my first transfer to pay school fees and shopped for my son who was joining his high school at the time. He did well in his last year of primary and was admitted in one of the top national schools. I was distressed for I didn't have enough money to take him to this precious school, meeting the requirements was another trouble given that I am financially unstable and only depended on casual jobs to make ends meet for my family. I nearly called for fundraising but this did not happen as GiveDirectly sent me this money at the time I needed it most. I am so happy my son was able to join a school and a school of his choice. I spent the remaining amount to buy food for my family consumption and clothing for them too.
