How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have a passion in masonry and thus I would love to go back to college to get more skills on it. This will help me in looking for masonry jobs or start up my own construction company. I would also love to do vegetable farming.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Giving us unrestricted cash transfers, in my opinion, was a terrific idea because it allowed people to address a variety of requirements. I have noticed a significant improvement in our village as a result of the unconditional cash transfer. While some people purchased cows, others made investments in businesses. The village is now better and more tranquil. On the other hand, everyone seems to be applauding the organization, therefore I have not heard of any concerns about it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had fees arrears for my two children who are in school and thus after receiving the second transfer, I used $100 to clear the balance so that my kids would continue with their studies uninterrupted. I further spent $200 to buy iron sheets, cement, timber, nails and other building materials that I would used to finish up my house construction which I had began with the first transfer. I also bought a solar panel worth $30 that will be helpful for lighting up the house at night, my children needed this so much since they always have school assignments to do at night. I also paid my wife's dowry of $150 to my in-laws.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My daughter joined the school last year a long distance from here. I came up with that decision because I do casual jobs of construction whatever I get caters only to the food which is hard to extend to education. Therefore, the first thing I will do after receiving the money is to take my daughter back home to school here in the village, the whole of first transfer to start a kiosk business to sell foodstuffs and the second transfer to purchase iron sheets to replace the old grass that I used for roofing. This will give me peace of mind.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I play merry-go-round here in villagers, in august 2021 I got my money and I went straight to the shop to buy beddings. This made me happy because for the first time I had a chance to sleep on a mattress.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Employment has been a challenge to me. I completed class eight in 2009 and I wasn't able to join secondary education due to a lack of finances. I was left with no option other than beginning to hustle to feed my family. It has been hard to get better jobs because of my educational level. In 2014 I got married and as for now I have two kids but life isn't getting any better, the work that I do is only available during the rainy season guess what happens during this drought season. Only God knows, thanks GiveDirectly for giving me hope for success in life.
