How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much better because I now sleep like a king on a comfortable mattress and I acquired livestock. This is something that I could not have achieved on my own. In the past, I remember I used to sleep on mats which were very uncomfortable. I had just been released from prison and I had no income generating activity. I am very proud of my possessions and especially the house that I built because of GiveDirectly. GiveDirectly has given me a new life I never thought I would lead.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to send us the cash transfers that saved us from poverty. I am very grateful that GiveDirectly did that so well without any outside any government interference.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the cash transfer to purchase livestock worth UGX 1450000 and UGX 100000 to purchase a six inch mattress and bed sheets worth UGX 16000. The balance was spent on buying food.
