How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life has changed because I have been able to purchase livestock which according to me is such an asset that will generate more money for me in the future. I will no longer use the handheld plow which is always very hectic.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, I believe that the organization helped so many people in the community and so far I can see a lot of changes. There are those who bought oxen which they will use for farm cultivation while others tie them on driven hand carts which they use to ferry water from rivers which are located several miles away.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money to buy two goats which I know will generate more money in the future whenever I run into a financial crisis. Apart from that, I also bought an ox pulled plowing machine which we will be using to cultivate our farm in the future. Apart from that, I made sure that I cleared all the school fees balance for my child who had huge arrears that had to be offset.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to be a watermelon farmer but it has not been easy for me to do so due to the heavy investment it requires including a water source. These transfers come at a better time because I will be able to buy seeds and prepare land for the watermelons. At the same time I will invest on water tanks for water harvesting which I will use in irrigating the farm. This business will provide me with profits that I can use in paying school fees for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My daily routine begins at 6am when I go to my farm. This is my happiest part of my day as I am able to ensure that my farm is ready for planting season and I will have food for my family eventually.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband's contract ended in 2016 and he was the sole breadwinner for the family. This happened at a time when we have two children in college and another in secondary school. Since then we have not been able to secure school fees for my children as the news about his contract termination came as a surprise for us.
