What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
The transfer is timely, it will help improve my life a lot. I currently have planted about two acres of grass for sale. It's not well secured and livestock get inside sometimes and eat the grass for free. I plan to use about $800 to secure it. The fencing will include barbed wire and iron poles for long lasting security. During a good season of harvest, one can get up to $1000. I believe I can do this and secure my future income. Annually I can harvest three times. Due to the biting drought and food insecurity. I plan to use the remaider of the transfer for food and repair my house. I need to also cement it and buy some few household items such as beds and beddings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Goats provide us with milk for tea. I have four goats. I'm happy knowing they keep multiplying and can help us in the future. They're easier to manage due availability of feeds around here.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Drought is our biggest challenge, we cannot plant and also fetch water from far distances. This means we must look for other ways to get food. Charcoal burning is my main source of income to support my family. It's difficult albeit we're able to buy food through this. One bag of charcoal is sold for $6. This can only support food requirements for four days. I'm forced to burn more charcoal. One kilo of maize flour is sold at about $0.5. It's enough for a day.
