How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have plans to buy more livestock so that I could rear and use to plow my land for both commearcial and domstic use. Apart from that our area has experienced so much drought and so I wanted to get food for myself because on different occasions I have had to go hungry because I got no harvest from my farm
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has helped me in gaining financial stability and I will eternally be thankful because prior to getting introduced to the program I would starve from time to time and now my financial capacity is sustainable, I am no longer as impoverished as I was before the assistance I got. So I hope they continue to be a ray of hope to other individuals as they were to me.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving the money I decided that I would save it for later use because I still had enough food in house from the first transfers and I did not want to be in a rush to purchase anything that I did not need at the moment since with the first transfers I had already bought a few livestock and food, but I was thinking of helping my grandkids attend school by paying for their tuition with the money.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard the message notification on my phone at around 10 am. Being old and illiterate I could understand the message. I called my daughter in -law to my house to confirm if I had received my transfer since we were enrolled at a similar time. I was overwhelmed with joy when I was informed that I had received my transfer that would change my life for the better. I thank GiveDirectly for the aid and I pray that it may reach many people like me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I am now a happy person after restarting my livestock rearing a job that had sustained my life. Furthermore, I was able to get proper medication and currently I am feeling well. In addition, I have some savings that I set aside which will help me meet my daily needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have desired to restart my livestock rearing an activity that I had been depending on since I was a teenager. Being a widower and the sole breadwinner to my family, I use all my livestock to educate my children who were left under my care. Some livestock died due to chronic illness. I spent KES 17,500 to purchase local breed cows and two goats. This is my future investment since I will be able to sell them whenever I face any financial emergency. I also spent KES 1,500 to seek medical care because I was suffering from chest pneumonia. In addition, I save the remaining amount to support In other needs like food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a good source of income for me. Currently I depend on subsistence farming which provides food only and I need money to cater for other needs. To achieve this I burn charcoal too but it does not give me enough due to its cumbersome nature. I will therefore purchase livestock for rearing. These will include a cow, goats and chicken at a cost of 30000 shillings. Once they multiply I will be selling the produce to earn a living.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. I am stronger at this time after the night long rest. Engaging in tiresome duties during the day wears me out and trigger the body aches.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of enough money is my biggest hardship. This has resulted to a struggle when it comes to catering for my needs. Sometimes I have to depend on my children who have their families too, hence cannot support me fully. Being elderly, my health is not so good. I experience body aches but I have never had money to seek medical attention.
