How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is totally different from how it would have been becasue I now sleep peacefully in a better house like the rest. The previous one was not in good condition at all and its walls had cracks and I always felt unsafe during the winter seasons. I had no coin to facilitate the construction of a new house and like was so tough by then. In such every rainy season, we had to seek shelter from neighbors until the season ends. Also, I am now a proud owner of two dairy cows which I have started getting their benefits. I settled in buying them because they are normally considered the best living assets one can ever have. They are highly valued in our community because they have numerous benefits.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in my village becasue officers v visited every needy household. There was no way one could be discriminated becasue the exercise was fair with approachable officers. Also, the fact that we were taught how best we can spend the money according to our desires was the best of all,
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying several big materials such as iron sheets, timber, building poles, and ropes. I opted to purchase all these with the intention of constructing of a new house because the previous one was in a very small and poor state. To add to that, I cleared school fees for my children who are both in primary and secondary schools. With the wrong amount of money, I am sig it in buying enough food and some other household items that I was lacking

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 12 o'clock when I was taking lunch then I heard my phone ringing continuously. I decided to check since I was anxiously waiting for the Mpesa message from GD. On checking, I realized that it was the same message that I was eagerly waiting for. I happily called my spouse and shared the good news. I remember canceling all my day's activities because of the joy. I could barely concentrate on anything due to the excitement that I had.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I can proudly mention is the fact that I now own dairy cows. I opted to keep them because I will be getting milk for free for my family consumption. This means that my children will never sleep hungry as they used to do. Instead, the milk will be a supplement to their daily meals. I have been buying milk from n4eighbors which was very expensive and most of the time I could not afford it. This used to street me a lot because my children would go to school without taking tea on that particular morning. To add to that, when the milk will be produced in large quantities, I will be selling them to my neighbors and generate an income.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some livestock which includes two dairy cows at a total of KES 36000. As a farmer, I have been having a dream of having them but due to my financial status, I could not afford to buy them. I made it my first priority immediately after I got financial support. I also bought some bedding which includes a new mattress and bedsheets. The previous one had worn out and I was not comfortable whenever I could sleep. In addition, I cleared school fees areas for my children who had recently resumed back to school. With the remaining amount of money, i am using it to buy sufficient foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have desired to start livestock rearing especially dairy cattle as my reliable source of income. I have not fulfiled this wish due to financial instability. Receiving this money means my dream will be realized because I am planning to purchase 4 dairy cows at 13,000 Kenya shillings each. I will be able to sell milk every day once they reproduce which will earn my income to support my family a transformation I have been longing for. Also, I plan to use the remaining amount of money to pay school fees for my children one is in secodary School and the other 5 are in primary school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest is part of the day . Being a pleasant farmer my day starts in the morning by working in my farm until afternoon when I return home for lunch. After lunch I take my goats for herding up to the evening when I come back home to relax and meet my children when they return from school. Knowing that I have successfully accomplished my day's work give me joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a reliable source of income to support my children's educational needs has been my biggest hardship in my life. This has forced my child who is in secodary School to seek casual employment in order to assist me in paying his school fees. I am always worried that working may affect his academics because he lacks enough time to read as he always return home tired after work.
