The roofing of my house was destroyed by the wind some years back, but I have been unable to repair it due to financial constraints. Now that I will benefit from Give Directly, I will be able to repair it using part of the first transfer and pay school fees using the remaining cash. I am truly grateful for this unwavering support from GiveDirectly and am now hopeful about the future of my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son, who was in secondary school, recently completed her education and this has brought happiness to my life. This has lessened the burden of raising huge school expenses and at least I can afford to save some cash. I can now educate my other child, who is also at a secondary level, without much struggle.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Low and unsustainable income are the challenges we are currently facing. Raising a family of 3 single-handedly with a meager wage of approximately KES 150 a day is an uphill task. I usually depend on casual labor such as fishing, vending water in the village, and, at times, taking care of teachers' children when they have gone to school for a fee. Living in such tough economic times with low income has made our lives unbearable. My hope has now been rekindled through the transfer that I am expecting from Give Directly. This will be a stepping stone to realizing a fulfilled future for my family.
