Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the presence of sufficient foodstuff in our household. We used to go without taking tea but nowadays we milk our own cows and make tea whenever we feel like taking it. Our past life was routinely made of two meals - a little lunch and supper - to perpetually take us to the next day but thanks to GiveDIrectly for changing things now that we are swimming in the comfort of three heavy meals per day.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Buying wheat flour and making nice chapati for the children in our community, which is served with a meal containing rice is a perfect show of celebration. This is how we changed the mood of our young children to make them feel and share the taste of our feeling the moment we received the money. I may not be able to express in words how best we shared the joy but all I can say is that everyone in our family was very happy and still very happy as we break it down to the expensnes.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have been living in an old house for a long time and on receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I decided to spend 10000 KES in purchasing 20 iron sheets with the intent of renovating my old house. I spent 1000 KES in buying other materials meant for the walls since it was not in a good condition. I paid 1500 KES for the labor in the construction of the pit latrine which initially has been in use with the walls constructed with tree branches and cartons, I also replenish the other household goods among them spending 2000 KES in purchasing kerosene which is our main source of fuel. and the larger remaining amount goes to buying of two cows and two goats. GiveDirectly has really made our home a new place, appealing to the eyes and I am sure the staff who enrolled us will be surprised by the changes when they come back.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will Purchase livestock and start livestock rearing. I will also start a shop business in Bamba trading centre. The shop will give me a stable income, that will enable me to construct a new house and educate my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is because I feel so strong and energetic enough to face the day's activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in life is lack of enough money to sustain the family. This is due to poor source of income since my husband is a casual labourer in Mombasa. This condition makes it difficult to meet basic needs such as food and education for my children.
